Hamad had just turned 18 and for his birthday he was awarded 20 points for his first ever Formula win in round 5 of the Formula BMW Asia Championship. Taking over the lead to drive to a stylist win on the tight and demanding Bira circuit near Pattaya in Thailand. Returning to Bahrain he was met at the airport by a royal group of enthusiastic followers including a representative of the Bahraini King. Combined with his own domineering style, Michael has put together all the right ingredients to win. He almost got it right in round 1, almost in round 5, almost again in round 7 but his win from 6th place on the grid in round 10 proved beyond doubt that he has what it takes. With 97 points he is only 19 away from the championship leaders. On top of his wish list is to win the remaining rounds of the series but at least five more driver have also written that same request in stone.
2005 F-BMW Asia Winner: Charlie-Ro Charlez
Dubbed the ‘Jenson Button’ and ‘Asian points-master’ he should not normally be listed in the Meritus Hall of Fame for eMeritus winners but his performance during rounds 9 and 10 at the Taeback circuit in Korea has earned him enough credit to be listed with the other winners such as the Meritus F1 stars Narain and Takuma. Charlez bagged not only his 1st pole sitter slot but added a second pole to prove that it was not a fluke, while his two 2nd place finishes in rounds 9 and 10 also proved that he has a winner’s racecraft. Charlie has earned the name of the ‘Asian points-master’ for his calculating ability to read race strategy carefully and to always pick up points. His strategy could well be good advice for many ‘hero to zero’ racers; to date, without winning a race, Charlez has collected a points tally of 107 only 9 points behind the leaders with 80 points still to be distributed.
