Media and TV Values

Develop Regional Media Partners

Creating strong and positive PR is critical to the success of the sponsorship; it creates a buzz about your product and as long as Meritus supply interesting press releases and great pictures, the media results will see retailers and consumers clamouring to get their hands on Sponsors’ products.

The activation team together with the sponsor’s media and PR companies will establish local and regional media partnerships. These official media partners will be awarded specific rights including sponsorship areas on the race cars for particular events, in return for guaranteed editorial and advertorial coverage of the team’s activities during the period of the agreement. The media partners will be selected to suit specific markets. The media partnership includes the following areas:

  • Terrestrial and satellite networks
  • National daily newspapers, English and Arabic
  • Monthly specialist magazines
  • Regional news websites

The official print media partners can select from feature stories per event which will be supplied in different languages. Television partners will be supplied with lifestyle programmes as well as race footage which will be filmed by the team’s commissioned production crew to include stories about the day in the life of a racing driver, his fitness training and his preparation for a race event.

Television Coverage

A specialist sports production company produces a half-hour highlight programme for each of the Championship races. Designed to appeal to a far broader audience than live race coverage alone, these programmes will contain driver interviews, features stories, educational data, as well as race highlights, utilizing the latest in television graphics. A satellite agreement with both STAR and ESPN will also offer substantial coverage of each event's highlights, with up to three repeats.

Asian Print Media Coverage

There is no analytical means of measuring the motorsport interest of both the print and electronic media. However exposure generated by the AFOS championship and teams over the past seasons give a very positive statement of media interest. AFOS provides a press room at each event with all facilities necessary for reporters to file copy, while a professional press service distributes press releases, championship information and media incentives.

Meritus employs a PR company to assist our sponsors maximize and co-ordinate the PR effort. Press releases are distributed through a computerized fax service to over 200 destinations in ten Asian countries, prior to and after each event. Pre-season detailed press information kits (containing technical data, driver biographies and team information) will be sent out to 200 selected publications.

Typically, AFOS events are covered by all the main daily, weekly and Sunday newspapers; in addition there are at least ten multi-language specialist magazines in each country featuring the AFOS championships. Between 30-150 journalists attend each AFOS event and currently an average of ten journalists travel internationally to each event. Figures are expected to grow with the championship event.
